A Typical Day on Trek in Bhutan |
|
Trekking in Bhutan is a transformational experience.
Day by day, mile by mile, one begins to strip away the layers of modern life. The only concern is what to carry for the day – water, clothing, camera, journal. As each day dawns we are drawn by the allure of high mountain passes and the tremendous views that surround us. Our worries become nonexistent. Our thoughts go within as we contemplate the question of
‘Who Am I’?. Trekking in Bhutan is a pilgrimage as we are challenged physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our bodies are renewed as we are free to ‘be’ without schedules, worries or commitments. This openness to our experience is what makes trekking a truly transformational journey.
Although trekking in Bhutan is remote from all signs of modernization, it does not preclude the comfort of a warm pallet or mouth watering delicacies. Camp is a haven among the rocky landscape. Spacious tents and cozy sleeping bags create all the comforts of home. We are greeted each morning by our cheerful staff providing hot tea and warm washing water as we lounge in the warmth of our tented camp. As we gather our gear together, a hot and hearty breakfast is prepared to fuel us for the start of our day on the trail. Our crew packs up our camp, loads the ponies with our gear and we are free to begin our day at a pace that fits our desire.
Carrying just a small daypack with all that we could possibly need – jacket, water, camera, journal, we set off down the trail. Take a break along the way, enjoy a visit with a passing villager, witness the plowing of a lush green field amid the rocky landscape, take a moment to record a thought in your journal or snap a few pictures. Relax into the flow and rhythm of the journey. Breathe in the fresh mountain air. Embrace the beauty that abounds.
We are welcomed by our friendly crew as we arrive to the lunch site where we can stretch out and enjoy the 360 degree scenery of the Himalayas. Kick back, enjoy the serenity and take a nap under the warm sunshine. Our crew packs up and continues to our camp – getting it ready for our afternoon arrival. We leisurely make our way until we reach our new home for the night. In time for hot tea and biscuits, we kick back and relax while watching the magnificent setting sun. As dusk arrives, our small group gathers for a multi-course dinner served by candlelight in our cozy dining tent. Stories are shared of our adventures, insights are revealed, and friendships form with our fellow travelers.
Under a star filled sky, we are grateful for this experience as we climb into our cozy tents for a restful nights sleep. The silent landscape blankets our camp until dawn greets us to a new day and a new beginning.
